This year marked the Centenary Celebrations of the landing at Gallipoli. To cememorate this significant event in our history, students prepared and conducted a special school assembly. The whole school performed a beautiful rendition of Spirit of the ANZACS by Lee Kernaghan, written for the centenary celebrations. Year 3,4,5,6 also recited In Flanders Field. Parents and students laid poppies in a diginified ceremony at the conclusion of the Assembly.
Mrs Thora Jarvis, was a guest at the ANZAC Day Assembly. Thora's father and uncle both served in WW1. The memories Thora shared were very moving and apreciated by all. After recess Thora spent time with each class so students could wear the helmet and examine the other items more closely. She also elaborated on her memories of her father's service. Students had many questions and very thoroughly engaged with Thora. It was a great learning opportunity, bringing our history to life. Thank you Thora.
The following Saturday students, parents and staff participated in the ANZAC march in Murwillumbah. Thank you parents for bringing the students, so beautiful presented to this important Australian tradition. The message through all learning experience and echoed by speakers on the day was not about glorify war, rather to honour and respect the sacrifice of the men and women who have served our country.
Lest we forget.
